wheel pilot rudder limits and clutch handle stop

My new evolution wheel pilot has an anomaly that I cannot understand. It starts with a warning to ensure that the rudder will not be turned to the stops but gives no information as to how one might do this. The obvious way is to set the Rudder Limit appropriately but whether I use the 30 deg default or the 10 deg minimum, when following the instructions to measure the hard over time, the rudder makes a full turn from port to the stbd limit in about 10 sec. Then we are told to double that time to set the hard over time. That makes no sense since the rudder made the change in 10 sec, not 20 sec.I also have the chronic problem with the clutch handle popping out in a seaway (=always in Hawaii) that I guess is inherent in all of the wheel pilots. Adjusting belt tension, etc., has no effect. I see that many place a shot cord or some such around the handle but that just makes it more difficult to release in an emergency. Why can't we place a small pan head screw in that otherwise useless nubbin that is supposed to engage the clutch handle and inhibit movement. That would raise its height maybe enough to hold the handle until we lift it. Anybody try that? Unfortunately Raymarine tells me that will invalidate my warrantee.See More
