AIS 650 Showing Class A not Class B
Hi everyone. I first searched the entire AIS for something similar to my issues, and finding nothing identical I am looking for some enlightenment. I recently had an authorized Raymarine Tech install an AIS 650 alongside my E120 MFD and going out through a Digital 4.5 db 4' antenna. Cruising the boat last weekend in the San Juans, I noted that I could see all information for Class A's (tugs, Ferry's, etc), yet could not see the names on any class "B"s. I docked at Friday Harbor and, using Marine Traffic.com, I could see my boat--Identified by name and data--while sitting there. Upon getting back underway, I was told by other boats that they could not see my name or much other data on their receivers. Again, I could still see Class A targets, to include their names and all data, but could not see the same info for any Class B target. So, it appears that I am losing my ID while underway, and my unit is not ID'g Class B's. The one solution that I see offered on most of the AIS issues on this forum appears to be making sure that the software version is the most current. I bought the unit from an online retailer, had them input my boat info, and then had a local tech do the install. I am not sure what version I have on the unit (I am in So Cal, boat is in Washington). Any ideas as to what my prob sounds like? Thanks, MikeSee More
